"And they were not enjoined anything except that they should serve Allah, being sincere to Him in obedience, upright, and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate, and that is the upright religion."
Allah has created man as the best of his creation and then left him in a lowest of low worldly state (Asfalas Saafeleen) and ordered him to reach the state of the pinnacle of union (Illiyeen). This beautiful creation gets adulterated by the abased traits of this lowest world and hence man has been emphasized on continuous purification so that his innate nature remains pure. The universal nature has descended a manifesto of life for this abounding journey from the lowest world to the highest state of union and the name of this manifesto is religion which is the fundamental necessity of human being.
The actual purpose of religion is to guide human being towards the purpose of creation. In order to acquire this objective the creator of religion has kept everything inside religion addressing all the needs of man. Awareness, Recognition, Organization and discipline, Education and purification, materialism and spiritualism, society and economy, worship and supplications, crusade and defence, individualism and socialism, actions, personal spending and spending in way of Allah, business and agriculture, reproduction and marriage, governance and population, peace and war; which means all the needs related to every segment of life has been granted through religion.
The Holy Quran is the pure "Naab" speech of Allah (s.w.t). It has no form of adulteration in it, no distortions have happened it and neither the words of any creation has found way in it.
"Naab" means something pure , clean and non adulterated. The religion of Allah is pure, clean and non adulterated. The function of religion is to purify and make man sincere and this is only possible when man adopts this religion with sincerity, purity and acts upon it with sincerity. He should not do any adulteration in it from his side. Allah (s) has also mentioned about the pure source of religion which is the pure words and speech of Allah (s) that is the Holy Quran. Human being has been given many such pure bounties from Allah (s) like pure water, pure air, pure environment but today we see that these pure things are adulterated by the hands of man. Today getting pure water for drinking has become a difficulty for man, it is rare to get pure air and the environment is full of impurities. Man out of his immaturity and ignorance has tried to change the pure gifts of Allah also into impure. The Holy Quran has said while referring to the treacheries of Bani Israel and specifically the Jews:
يُحَرِّفُونَ الْكَلِمَ عَن مَّوَاضِعِهِ
.. they altered words from its places..
(Surah Nisa: 46)
They used to present the verses and commands of Allah by altering its meaning and interpretations. They also used to write scriptures and ascribe it to Allah (s.w.t) leaving an impression on people that these are verses from Allah (s.w.t) whereas Allah (s) has severely condemned them. The story of distortions in religion by the hands of Bani Israel are mentioned in the Quran so that the believers should pay attention to this danger that at times due to certain acts done in the name of religion the pure religion of Allah (s) gets presented in an impure form.
Allah (s) says in Holy Quran that it is necessary for human being to follow religion else he will be misguided and ruined. Along with this it is also said that following of every religion does not gives salvation; it is the obedience of righteous and divine religion that gives salvation. And even the divine religion can only give salvation when it is pure and unadulterated. It is similar to the fact that a patient gets cure only from the medicine prescribed by the doctor and that too this prescribed medicine will only be effective if it is pure else the use of impure and duplicate medicines won't give cure to the patient.
It is simplicity and simple mindedness of a person that he accepts everything available in the market as pure. A grievous act is that the market is full of impure things because the self interested elements are not concerned with human life they are only concerned about filling their pockets with money hence they prepare and sell man's essential commodities with adulteration.
The food and drinks market of impurities and adulteration is even hot in the world of religion. The issue of selling religion has come repeatedly in the Holy Quran and also of those who add impurities to religion and present it in adulterated form.
There are many methods of making religion impure which are identified and pointed by the divine book. One very common method is adulterate falsehood with truth which is known as " تَلْبِسُواْ الْحَقَّ بِالْبَاطِل"
In Surah Baqrah Allah (s) has said this while addressing Bani Israel
وَلاَ تَلْبِسُواْ الْحَقَّ بِالْبَاطِلِ
And do not mix up the truth with the falsehood
(Surah Baqarah - 42)
Ameerul Momineen says: "If truth remained pure and falsehood also remained as it then the followers of truth would not have faced any difficulties; but what has happened is that some have adulterated truth by mixing it with falsehood and falsehood by mixing it with truth. So now falsehood looks like truth and truth looks like falsehood". Thus there is a need to highlight the impurities and adulteration done by some within religion and the impure elements within pure religion should be identified. These impurities have also been invented in the religion of Islam. The Quran is secure from distortions but the Muslims are warned about the dangers of distortion that your religion can also become adulterated with distortions. The book of Allah is secure from literal distortions (means words cannot change) because Allah has taken the responsibility of its protection but there have been many forms of adulteration in recognition of religion and understanding of religion. The responsibility of keeping the understanding of religion pure has been imposed on believers by Allah (s) and it has been established as a duty on scholars.
Imam Khomeini (r.a) says: " There is a need to present the divine religion the way it was in front of people. There is a need for pure, unadulterated, divine, Mohammadi (s) and Quranic religion. Imam (r.a) recognized this pure religion and presented it to Ummah (nation) as instructed by Quran.
And they were not enjoined anything except that they should serve Allah, being sincere to Him in obedience, upright, and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate, and that is the right religion.
This verse says that people were just asked to worship Allah by keeping the religion pure. Thus to keep religion pure is an obligatory duty of believer.
